An AGE-GILITY Lesson in Calm, Perspective⦠and Free Cocktails. Valentineās Day was supposed to be sweet.
Florida sunshine.
A smooth ride to the Orlando airport.
Warm memories tucked neatly into our carry-ons.
Instead? As they say in Florida⦠CRASH.
Not a dramatic crash.
Not a Hollywood explosion.
Just that unmistakable tap from behind while sitting in slow-to-a-dead-stop traffic on the Florida Turnpike ā almost at the airport exit. You know the kind of traffic that moves at the speed of cold maple syrup and then stops.
And just like that, Valentineās Day felt more like Friday the 13th. We were barely moving.
Bright red, brand-new SUV rental.
Calm, sunny, Florida morning.
Then ā thud.
Traffic, which was already creeping, completely froze.
Now hereās where personalities reveal themselves:
⢠My husband ā processingā¦. Oh NO, because he knew he knew she was going to hit us.
⢠The other driver ā flustered.
⢠Kids in the back seat ā wide-eyed.
⢠Me ā apparently auditioning for āCalmest Woman on the Turnpike.ā
I stepped out of the car (because of course I did), walked back, and checked on the driver and her children.
First things first:
Is everyone okay? Thankfully, yes. No injuries. Just shaken and frustrated.
And hereās the interesting twist: there was barely any damage to our rental SUV.
But that 4-door sedan behind us? Oohh⦠she took the hit.
Therefor, to make a long story short:
- The driver immediately took responsibility.
- The rental car company was completely cool about it.
- They even said, āIt happens all the time.ā (Comforting⦠and slightly concerning.)
- Now we just hope our insurance doesnāt ādingā us. š
But wait⦠it gets better. It was a Tesla. Which means? Built-in dash cam. The whole thing was recorded.
Hereās the moral of the story: If a car is going to rear-end youā¦
I hope itās a Tesla.
Technology for the win!
However, hereās what struck me later.
It was Valentineās Day. Hearts. Flowers. Romance.
And instead of exchanging chocolatesā¦We were exchanging phone numbers and information.
But hereās your Tuesday Truth:
AGE-GILITY isnāt about avoiding lifeās bumps.
Itās about how you respond when they happen.
Itās the ability to:
- Stay calm under pressure
- Check on others first
- Keep perspective
- Adapt quickly
- Laugh later
Life is going to ārear-endā you sometimes. The question isnāt if.
The question is:
Will you react⦠or will you respond?
Thatās vibrancy. Thatās resilience. Thatās AGE-GILITY.
And Then⦠Redemption
We finally make it to the airport. We board our Southwest flightā¦ā¦..A Free Valentineās Day cocktail!
Now Iām not saying it was destinyā¦But after being rear-ended on Valentineās Day? That little plastic cup felt like victory.
Cheers to:
- Perspective
- Patience
- Dash cams
- And stories that get better with time
So, tell me, have you ever had a day that was supposed to be magical and turned into a story instead?
Drop it in the comments. Because hereās the truth: Life is going to bump into you sometimes. The question is ā
do you react⦠or do you respond?
And on Valentineās Dayā¦.We chose calm. And cocktails. š
Happy Belated Valentineās Day, friends. š
Bye for now!
