Knowing your WHY gives your life direction, motivation, and a deeper sense of purpose. But your WHY… is not something you discover once and carry unchanged forever. Therefore, as you go through different phases and decades of life, your priorities, passions, responsibilities, and purpose may change too.
✨ Changing your WHY does not mean you have lost your direction. …..It may mean you are growing.
The purpose that guided you in your twenties or thirties may not be the same purpose that inspires you in your forties, sixties, seventies, or beyond.
Life experiences shape us.
Careers end. Families change. Health priorities shift. New interests appear. Sometimes we finally have the time and freedom to explore parts of ourselves that were quietly waiting in the background.
🦷 My First WHY: Preventive Health
For nearly four decades, my WHY centered on preventive health and helping people and my profession as a dental hygienist.
I educated and encouraged my patients to care for their oral health, to understand the connection between the mouth and the body, and to take small steps toward a healthier life.
Therefore, my career gave me purpose, structure, relationships, and an identity I was proud of.
Then retirement arrived during the Pandemic, and like many people entering retirement, I had to ask myself-
🤔 Who am I now that my longtime career has ended?
That question can feel unsettling. When a career has been part of your identity for decades, retirement may leave an unexpected void.
The schedule is gone, title changes, people who depended on you are no longer part of your daily life.
However, retirement does not mean your purpose has expired.
It may simply mean your WHY is ready to evolve.
🎓 My Next Chapter: Learning and Reinventing
After retiring from dental hygiene, I pivoted and earned new certifications as a Transformational Health and Life Coach and a Women’s Fitness Specialist.
I believed coaching would define my next chapter—and it certainly became an important part of it. As I continued sharing messages about health, movement, mindset, retirement, purpose, and living vibrantly as we age.
But as I kept learning, speaking, writing, and stepping outside my comfort zone, I discovered something else about myself.
💡 I am a creator.
✍️ Discovering My New WHY
I create books, blogs, Facebook Lives, programs, presentations, workshops, and messages designed to encourage others to keep growing.
Writing and speaking have become powerful ways for me to share what I have learned through decades of preventive health, retirement, reinvention, and personal growth, with AGE-GILITY®!
My WHY did not disappear when I retired.
It expanded.
*The dental hygienist who educated patients… became the coach…. who encouraged healthy change.
*The coach who became the author and speaker who now shares stories, lessons, practical tools, and possibilities with a much wider audience.
📚 I discovered that every stage of my life had prepared me for the next one.
🧭 Your WHY Is Your Internal GPS
Your WHY is like an internal GPS—your Growth Purpose System™.
It gives you direction, but it can also help you recalculate when life changes.
A GPS does not criticize you for taking a different road. It simply helps you adjust and move forward from where you are now.
Your purpose may once have centered on raising a family, building a career, caring for loved ones, or supporting a community.
In another season, your WHY may become improving your health, writing a book, mentoring others, traveling, volunteering, creating art, starting a business, or discovering who you are outside of everyone else’s expectations.
🌟 There is no expiration date on discovering a new purpose.
🌻 Questions to Help You Rediscover Your WHY
As you enter a new phase or decade, ask yourself:
🔹 What matters most to me in this chapter?
🔹 What experiences have prepared me to help someone else?
🔹 What have I always wanted to learn, create, or share?
🔹 What gives me energy instead of draining it?
🔹 What would make this next decade feel meaningful?
You do not need to have the entire plan.
Sometimes we discover our next purpose by taking one small step.
It may begin with earning a new certification, writing one page, volunteering for one event, joining one group, accepting one speaking opportunity, or simply saying yes to something that stretches you.
🚶 Start where you are.
You are not starting over.
You are starting from experience.
💛 Tuesday Truth
Your purpose is not something you find once and keep forever.
Your WHY can change as you grow.
Stay curious.
Stay flexible.
Keep learning.
Keep creating.
And remember: you are not living fully unless you continue to grow through every decade of your life.
That is AGE-GILITY®.
🌱 What is calling YOU in this chapter of your life—and how has your WHY changed?
Bye for now!
