What a weekend of remembrance.
We cannot change the past, but as it has been said by Winston Churchill, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
I’m not sure why it is politically correct to rewrite history books in this day of age just because it may look like the US has a “black eye.” But, unfortunately, it is in our PAST.
Sunday marked the 21st Anniversary of 9/11. Most of us recall exactly where we were and what we were doing when the first plane hit the World Trade Center’s first tower and stood there in disbelief when the second tower hit.
The world stood still again when a third plane hit the Pentagon, as United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near the small town of Shanksville, PA. on the way to the White House.
The terrorist hijacker’s plan to hit the Nation’s Capital was just 18 minutes away when it was foiled by the 40 selfless and courageous passengers and crew. They used airphones to contact authorities and called to say “goodbye” to their loved ones.
I highly recommend the book by Lisa Beamer (an easy and fast read) about that day and last conversation with her husband Todd on Flight 93 as he told her he loved her. Her book is about the passengers’ final conversations with their loved ones.
LET US NEVER FORGET.
Also, on Sunday, my brother-in-law Jeff had the opportunity to be one of the 60 men and women to be on the 73rd Honor Flight Rochester (HFR). Honor Flight is a national organization free currently to all American veterans who served and sacrificed during WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam.
The Honor Flights fly to and from Washington, DC, to visit and reflect together at their memorials. Visiting those monuments and others is something we should do. It is part of our American history that we can’t erase.
Honor Flight Rochester (HFR) tagline is “We Leave No Veteran Behind.”
LET US NEVER FORGET.
Here are 3 Ways to HONOR the PAST by HELPING Today.
- Give – Donate to your favorite nonprofit. I gave you two examples here today.
- Advocate – Consider advocating for a cause. It can be as simple as signing a petition and gathering others to speak for a cause. In-person or online.
- Volunteer – Volunteering leads to fundamental and lasting changes that benefit everyone. And it is GOOD for your soul!
Taking such action is empowering, and SERVICE is essential to better our lives and the life of others…. now and in the future.
“What happened in the past belongs in the past. Learn from it, grow, and move on. Don’t let it determine your future.”
~ BJ Harvey~.`
“LIFE is too SHORT to wake up in the morning with REGRETS.
So, LOVE the people who treat you right.
FORGET the ones that don’t and BELIEVE that everything happens for a REASON.
If you get a CHANCE…………… TAKE IT.
If it CHANGES your LIFE………….. LET IT.
Nobody said it would be EASY.
They just PROMISED it would be WORTH IT.”
