January 3, 2023
Like many, we use the New Year to reset healthy habits and be more INTENTIONAL in making decisions about our health and future.
Setting small daily goals can lead to more significant results when these steps are easy and achievable. In addition, changes in behavior over time will lead to sustainable outcomes.
According to Wikipedia, “a New Year’s resolution is a tradition most common in the Western World but also found in the Eastern World, in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their behavior at the beginning of a calendar year.”
I like to think about setting INTENSIONS for the New Year and beyond. According to Wikipedia,” Intentions are mental states in which the agent commits themselves to a course of action. The action plan is the content of the intention while the commitment is the attitude towards the content.”
To me, a Resolution is just a tradition and a “fluff” word we throw around at the beginning of a new year. An INTENTION is setting a goal of what you want to DO with the mental state of whom you want to BE and ACHIEVING the desired outcome by the ACTION YOU TAKE.”
“Good intentions are useless until they are expressed in appropriate action.”““Good intentions are useless until they are expressed in appropriate action.”

As a health and life coach, I have learned to manifest what I desire in life by clearly defining my goals, believing in myself, reinforcing my beliefs, taking the desired actions, and flowing through the challenges along the way. AND YOU CAN DO THE SAME.
Now that the New Year is here, with the holiday rush behind us, we can turn to the future to set goals we want to achieve.
Let’s Start with “5” Simple Tips to improve your health in 2023:
- Stay Hydrated (even in colder weather) – Keeps your mind clear, maintains body temperature, and aids in bodily wastes.
- Mindful Eating – When, why, & how. The Magic Plate. Eat until you are 75-80% full. You are looking for the quality of calories to give you energy.
- Get Moving – Calories in and calories out / Weight management. Exercise improves cognitive & brain health, strengthens bones and muscles, and helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
- Get Your Sleep – This is when your body rests, refreshes, and resets to take on the next day. Most adults need 7-8 hours of sleep.
- Set Boundaries – Boundaries can help reduce stressors in your life. Helps you balance work and life responsibilities. Give yourself flexibility when it is right for you to do it. Adjust when needed. It may not be easy, but worth the effort to increase your sense of power, especially when things are overwhelming and challenging.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What changes would you like to make this year: In your personal life, With your health, In your career?
- Do you have any goals you would like to pursue?
- Have you had difficulties following through with your resolutions or intentions?
- What matters most in your life?
If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, you might be due for a refresh or a restart! Research suggests that when people intentionally implement a change, they’re more likely to achieve their goal.
Intentions should:
- Be well thought out
- Be aligned with your priorities & values
- Have an action plan
- Have daily steps that are easy, obtainable, & rewardable
- Set the tone to motivate to create behavioral change
Don’t give up! Enlist a coach or accountability partner. We all slip up……. but fail forward. When interrupted, remind yourself of “WHY” you made this intention and reflex on the outcome to get back on track.

What is your NEW YEAR INTENTION for 2023?
Mine is to stop procrastination! I have been doing well so far, but being a realist, it is only January third!
I start by setting my daily goal(s). I say GOALS because I’m behind due to taking time off for the holidays. I then set achievable small steps to reach those goal(s). Finally, my REWARD is the ACCOMPLISHMENT of achievement!
For me, that’s enough……making the bed, doing my morning exercise, eating healthy, working on my business, and spending time with my honey. Also, making time for friends, connecting on social media, volunteerism, and “number one” SELF-CARE!
Until next week, put your health and wellness INTENTIONS first and TRUST YOUR TRUTH!
BYE for now!
