Every morning, I wake up with the same thought:
“Today, I will conquer the world!” By “world,” I mean my computer. And by “conquer,” I mean I will attempt to open a file without triggering a minor digital apocalypse.
As a self-taught tech enthusiast, every day feels like a showdown between me and the tech gods.
They throw cryptic error messages at me, and I respond with Google searches that start with “How to fix…” If you’ve ever tried to publish a book, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
I recently embarked on a 7-day challenge to write and publish an eBook and let me tell you, that was a cakewalk compared to what came next: the paperback version.
The eBook sailed smoothly into the Amazon review process. Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy, right? There is the link to purchase the eBook! PLEASE review, too! https://a.co/d/0gnPwrk6
The paperback, however, has been a nightmare that Freddy Krueger would envy. Who knew adding a few tweaks could turn into a marathon of frustration and tech-induced dread?
But here’s the thing ….. I’m learning. It’s about laughing at the absurdity of it all!
For example, when you were out with co-workers who convinced you to try karaoke after drinking bourbon, You dreaded it and fought. Still, in the end, you discover your hidden talent for belting out “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Or, in this case, figuring out why my manuscript keeps formatting itself into hieroglyphics.
Amid all these trials and tribulations, it’s essential to remember that we’re only human. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, life throws us a curveball.
That’s where self-compassion comes in. It’s okay to take small steps and celebrate tiny victories. Self-compassion means cutting yourself some slack when the tech gremlins strike. It’s about laughing at the absurdity of it all.
However, challenging yourself daily is essential. It keeps your brain sharp, spirit resilient, and sense of humor intact because it’s about laughing at it all, taking two hours to fix a margin error in the text!
So, here’s to the big challenges, the small steps, and the occasional need to scream into a pillow.
Remember, progress is progress, no matter how often you must restart your computer. And always, always be kind to yourself. After all, you’re doing your best, and that’s more than enough.
Much like tech escapades, life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Every challenge you face is a chance to grow, learn, and become more adept at navigating the chaos.
So, embrace your daily challenges with humor and a generous helping of self-compassion!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a paperback to wrestle with.
Wish me LUCK!
