Welcome!
Today’s Tuesday Truth might surprise you a little… because I’m getting real about something I’ve experimented with A LOT—intermittent fasting. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/intermittent-fasting-what-is-it-and-how-does-it-work
Now, if you’ve followed me for a while, you know I believe in AGE-GILITY… learning, growing, and pivoting as we go.
I want to share this with you… I’ve had some eye-opening experiences with fasting. Some good… some not-so-good… and one that I will honestly describe as… a living HELL. 😅
💡 MY FASTING JOURNEY
I’ve practiced daily intermittent fasting for years—typically 10–12+ hours. That felt natural, sustainable, and honestly… pretty good! And the biology of our bodies is designed to do so. So WHY fight it?
But… curiosity got the best of me.
I wanted MORE benefits—
✔ Reduce inflammation
✔ Heal a pretty extreme case of eczema
✔ Maybe even get off my cholesterol medication
So… under medical supervision, I tried something much more intense:
👉 Water fasting… for up to TWO WEEKS. https://michelerase.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1471&action=edit
Yes. Two. Weeks!
With doctor guidance, blood testing, and let me tell you…
👉 A LOT of expensive supplements just to keep my body functioning.
And even with determination… discipline… and a strong mindset…
It was HARD.
Actually… let’s just say it:
👉 It was a living HELL.
Yes, I lost weight.
Yes, I reduced inflammation temporarily.
BUT…
❌ It was not sustainable
❌ Going completely off gluten, sugar, and dairy didn’t work long-term for me
❌ And my cholesterol? It actually went out of control
That was a big wake-up call.
⚖️ Here’s the truth I want to share with you today:
👉 More extreme is NOT always better.
Fasting is a tool—not a magic fix.
And no matter what approach you take…
👉 Weight loss still comes down to being mindful of your calorie intake and exercise output!
You can fast all day…
…but if your eating window is filled with processed foods, sugar, and excess calories—
👉 Your body will respond accordingly, resulting in a negative outcome.
Because at the end of the day:
💡 You are what you eat.
💡 Food IS medicine.
🌿 WHAT I’M DOING NOW….?
I made another pivot. Because that’s what we do with AGE-GILITY. 😉
After more research, I found something that really aligns with me… both science and sustainability:
👉 A 5-Day (FMD) Fasting Mimicking Diet https://share.google/3T2ekjm13IchDetXQ
This approach is backed by 25 years of research, including support from the National Institutes of Health, among other health institutions.
And here’s why I love it:
✔ You still eat (YES… you eat!)
✔ It’s a carefully controlled nutrition program
✔ It helps reduce inflammation
✔ Supports cellular clean-up and renewal
✔ Protects muscle (which is HUGE as we age!)
✔ And avoids the extreme side effects:
- like mental/physical fatigue (headaches, brain fog, insomnia),
- electrolyte imbalance (heart palpitations),
- sudden drop in blood pressure when standing (dizziness),
- and the loss of muscle and nutritional deficiencies, by breaking down muscle tissue for energy.
Right now, I’m on Day 2 of my 5th round,
On day 2 …. Fat burning ramps up initiation of ketogenesis, and I can honestly say…
👉 This feels doable
👉 This feels sustainable
👉 This feels like something I can incorporate into a lifestyle (maintenance of 1 cycle every 3 months)
🧠TO KEEP IT SIMPLE
I’m not going to go deep into the science—
(all those fancy words like ketosis and autophagy, which occur on day 3.)
But if you’re a science geek like me…
👉 I’m happy to go there with you!
💛 THE BOTTOM LINE
Here’s your Tuesday Truth:
✨ You don’t need extremes to create results
✨ Consistency beats intensity every time
✨ And the best plan is one you can actually LIVE with
For me, that means:
✔ Eating clean (non-GMO, and organic when I can)
✔ Practicing daily intermittent fasting (10-12 hours/day)
✔ And using smarter strategies—not harsher ones
Because this journey isn’t about punishment…
👉 It’s about creating a vibrant life you can sustain.
