Tuesday Truth’s 11/12/24
I thought I was pretty healthy—after all, I’m a health coach, wellness advocate, and retired preventive health professional.
I’ve spent years learning about and practicing good nutritional eating, taking Functional Nutrition courses, and always saying things like, “You are what you eat” and “Food is medicine.”
But this time, my body had something to say……….
It started small, with a bit of eczema here and a dry patch there.
But soon, I was experiencing hives and itching everywhere, and I felt my skin had turned on me. The skin is the largest organ of our body!!
I tried all the usual remedies: over-the-counter fixes, saw my Derm, who prescribed topical creams and told me it was my age. I did not buy into that, yet none relieved me.
And there I was left, wondering how on earth this could be.
Turns out, the answer was inflammation—
I had to ask myself……… what was triggering it?
Remember, inflammation is your body’s way of saying, “Hey, something’s wrong!”
It’s the natural response to injury or invaders like germs (that we have been aware of for centuries).
Therefore, it’s like a silent alarm going off in the background, with no actual invaders in sight.
That’s when I turned to a Functional Medicine approach focused on healing my gut to reduce inflammation from the inside out. I will tell you more in a minute.
I discovered my “second brain,” my gut was to blame.
Gut inflammation wasn’t just affecting my skin but my energy, weight, mood, and mental clarity. It affects every organ of our body. What an eye-opener!
There is no quick fix; it means making fundamental, challenging changes— Cleaning up my American Diet!

Believe it or not, this was my rock bottom, and it wasn’t a silent alarm, but a LOUD ALARM!
I’m NOW determined to heal my body from the inside out by working on my gut health.
It also means going all-in with a metabolic repair program, which I’m in my fourth week of. No alcohol, no cheats—just me, my greens, and my grit!
I have committed to a journey that goes beyond just eating “clean.”
With the guidance of a Functional Medicine Doctor, I went all-in with an extensive blood workup, diagnosis, and treatment plan, along with prescribed supplements, fasting 14 hours per day, and weekly coaching.
It is a 90-day program, and I already completed my first of three-five-day liquid detox (100% lemon juice, maple syrup, and water) and extra water twice a day.
But here’s the cool part: even after two weeks of eating “clean,” I’m seeing changes. The pounds I’d been fighting off for months were starting to slip away.
My skin is healing, my energy is up, and my mindset is on fire!!!!!
Let me tell you— I’m not going to sugarcoat this; it’s not been easy, and it takes work.
Every day, I choose to stay on track, take care of my health, and keep showing up for myself.
