Good morning & Happy Spring!
Ahh, “Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” ~Anonymous
I asked yesterday on FaceBook, “What have you done for yourself this week, and what have you done for others?” Me…For others…. a kind word, a caring ear of encouragement, a FREE WEBINAR!!
My “The Sugar Talk” on how to break the sugar habit was last week.
And yes, sugar is a Habit. Research suggests up to 40% of our daily ACTIONS are DRIVEN by HABITS & not our decisions!!! We see our daily lives as a chain of independent thoughts, but the TRUTH is …….we are hamsters on the wheel of habit. Anyway, the Webinar went well except for the few technical glitches that I expected. I was grateful to those who took their precious time out of their evening and said YES to themselves to an opportunity to learn something NEW that could help get off that “Hamster Wheel of Habit.”
There was a lot of interest & some were not able to attend, so I will offer it again on the weekend & hope that it will be more accommodating for their schedules. I enjoyed the interaction, and it will prepare me for a live presentation I will be doing.
So going back to the question of what we did for others? ME for Myself (my life-longer learner self) ……What I did for myself was I started a new online course to become a Certified Nutrition Coach. I thought this would be cool! It will add more knowledge to what I learned from my health coaching program, my college nutrition class, and my experience in nutrition counseling as a dental hygienist.
But wait, NOT so fast! The first chapter was on Ethics & Scope of Practice. I know the differences between a licensed professional & a certification! I have both distinctions! So, I took the 15-question quiz at the end of the chapter & only got in the 80 percentile! What the heck!?! It tells you you can retake the test to pass, which is 76% & it will switch up the questions. Now I’m determined to get 100% on this stuff!
I took this quiz three times, and I still missed one question. When I went back to see my final score, the lowest passing score was posted. Was that fair? I didn’t think s! But I will have time to redeem myself on the final exam.
Now on to Chapter Two. This chapter was all on the Science of Research.
I GOT THIS ONE!!! I took Biostatistics & Epidemiology for my BS degree in Health Science, and I ACED the Course. NOT!……. I must have forgotten a lot of the specifics on the Methods of Scientific Research in 20 years! It’s hard to get old & lose the retention of things you learned and not used. This time, it took me three tries to pass this 15-question quiz! And I learned my lesson from the last time….. to stop while I am ahead, and again I will have another chance to redeem myself on the final. FINGERS CROSS.
Why do I share this with you today? To remind me and to anyone who strives for
perfection……It is about PROGRESS, not PERFECTION! Perfection can be too
stressful and can drive you “loco.” It’s not about “how we go” through things but “how we GROW” through our experiences. As a client of my work, I learned this truth and to get out of my “OWN WAY!” We all have many truths. There is always a risk of putting your true self out there like I did. But, it is a gift you give yourself and those you love.
Until next week, Trust your Truth!
