Our body’s CNS has two states, the Stress State and the Healing State, which cannot exist simultaneously.
How we react and stress response has a significant impact on our bodies.
Let’s use the analogy of a boat. Think of ourselves and our bodies as a boat floating in the ocean.
The whole bottom level is our genetics. It is said that only 20% of our makeup is genetics. However, it is still something that we can’t change and set the base level of our boat.
The next level-up is our:
- Adrenals – hormones that help control heart rate, blood pressure, and other essential body functions
- Immune System – The complex network of cells, tissues, organs, and the substances they make that help the body fight infection and other diseases.
- Digestion System – The breaking down of food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth, and cell repair.
- Toxic Overload – The condition of having excessive toxins in the body, including harmful substances from water, food, cleaning products, and other environmental sources we are exposed to regularly.
The next level-up is our Personality Types;
- Helper
- Achiever
- Perfectionist
- Anxiety
- Controller
- Trauma
Another thing to consider is that Energy Depleting Psychologies are Created by “2 Core Patterns”:
- Self-esteem issues – I am loved for what I do
- Safety issues – the world is only safe when I get things right/am in control/worry
Top-level of our Boat is LIFE! – It’s not the Load of the Stress in our Life, your experience; it is also the LENS through which you perceive it. And how your body responds. Give examples of
It’s the WAVES of Life’s TRIGGERS……. that SINK our Boats!
Remember….We can only exist in a healthy or stressed state.
There are 3 Pillars to understanding our stress response:
- What state are you in?
- What personality type are you?
- What is your emotional life?
The 3 Levels of the Stress Response are:
- Safe & Social – We seek to connect with cues of safety & respond positively to others in the same.
The feeling of safety exists in the body & not in mind. You cannot think your way to feeling safe.
- Fight of Flight – We prime for action to fight or run. The body pumps adrenaline and cortisol; in this state, we can misread cues.
- Freeze – Our reptile brain goes into “shutdown.” We disassociate and feel frozen and numb. We conserve our energy.
What does all this mean?
- You need to calm the “state” of your nervous system and get back to SAFE and SOCIAL.
- You need to identify and work on the energy-depleting psychology pattern types.
- You need to learn to be present in your body and digest and process your emotional history, which stops you from being there.
