What is your morning routine when checking your email and social media posts?
It takes much of my precious Time if you are a retired folk like me. At least an hour or more, I can’t get back! Kind of like watching a BAD MOVIE!
And I have two email accounts besides FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, Next Door, and whoever else I follow.
Yes…This is my problem, and MY lousy habit must change.
Who else needs to get their Time back to be more productive and just as fulfilled?
I must have gotten out on the wrong side of the bed yesterday after a great night’s sleep after doing our 5-Day Sleep Challenge.
However, I did find myself going through “REELS” and paid FB ads ……very annoyed! Annoyed at what I was seeing & how I was wasting my precious morning.
Yesterday, I questioned why some so-called influencers make Reels and why I was watching them with curiosity.
Most are so unauthenticated, with filters (hair makeup & nails done to “the hilt”), “tooting their horns,” trying to sell you something, or maybe trying to convince themselves or others they are influencers!
I have to say I did learn two good new “hacks” that I will share with you today. One was how to peel and dice an onion without using a dicer, and the other was how to wash your hair.
The woman with the hair video was all-natural, with her hair pinned back and not a stitch of makeup. She did not have a before or after; however, she had great advice on how to use your fingers to massage your scalp. Also recommend shaking the bottle before use, lathering up the shampoo in your hands first, and washing and rinsing twice before using the conditioner.
This leads me to the next question…..Why do manufacturers make the same size bottles when you use more shampoo? Wondering minds need to know!
Today, I still want and need to break this bad habit of wasting time on mindless reels (not to say some are funny, cute, and entertaining). Instead, we all need to be mindful of and remind ourselves of all the successes we have achieved and hurdles we have overcome, especially during COVID.
Maybe you pursued an opportunity to learn and challenge yourself, as I did. Perhaps you kept going through painful days with more grace than you thought possible.
It is not easy, but with kindness, we keep our feet firmly planted in self-kindness—an excellent place to be in today’s world.
So, what we will do is take a deep breath, shift from judgment toward acceptance, and give kindness a chance to be the influencer that you are.
Here is what I plan to do to break this Habit of Wasting Time watching REELS in the morning.
- Go in and check your emails. Then, delete or unsubscribe from those to not enhance your day or life.
- Check your notifications of anything you posted on social media from the previous day for engagement.
- Self-control – Self-control is like a muscle. Once you exert it, it gets tired, and you can rebuild it to what you need it to be.
- Avoid temptation. Move on with the rest of your morning routine.
- Replace the behavior with healthy ones. For example, meditation, Journaling plans for the rest of the day, and/or enjoying a healthy breakfast.
- Prepare Mentally. If you can’t avoid the temptation, prepare yourself in advance. Do you really need to sit there wasting Time to watch others’ “so-called perfect lives?”
- Enlist support. Ask friends, family, or co-workers to support your efforts.
- Reward yourself for small steps – Give yourself a healthy treat when you achieve your small goal. Give yourself a BIG HUG or a pat on the back.
- It’s about retraining your brain – to improve your ability to maintain any behavior change! “There is no one size that fits all,” but becoming aware of any unhealthy habit is the focus.
Be your OWN influencer in your life.
I want to leave you with this thought……….
Follow authentic people you know and trust who resonate with you, not those who get paid for the views you wasted your precious time on.
You are the one who knows you the BEST, and use your time wisely!
Until next week. Truth Your Truths!
