The holidays are a time for remembrance of the past, honoring the present, and the rebirth of the future!
As I was preparing for today’s talk, it hit me that it would have been my mom’s 109th birthday. And then the flood of all my memories of Thanksgiving passed flowed through my head and heart.
All the family thanksgiving dinners, the aroma of the turkey roasting early in the morning in this unique large mental roaster set on the vintage white metal table with the red design we had in the basement. One of the most vivid memories is the year it stopped working halfway through the process! Back then, there were no microwaves for warming the extras, and there was no room to roast a bird in the oven!
We couldn’t have been the only ones who ended up eating all the fixings first with turkey for dessert.
Thanksgiving Day in the US is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Traditional, it is a time to give thanks for all the sacrifice and hard work done for the harvest.
In our modern times, it gives people a long weekend to spend time with family and friends over a“foodie” feast held on Thanksgiving Day and planned around football games.
We sometimes use the words Thankful and Grateful interchangeably. Did you know there is a difference?
Thankfulness is an emotion, and gratitude is a feeling of appreciation under any circumstance. Meaning……. gratitude is an expression of daily thankfulness. And being grateful can encourage reflective thinking. Like, being grateful for your “blessings,” rooted in religion, means being grateful for the good things in your life. It often stops you from becoming unhappy about the things that don’t go right with your life.
Honoring the present….. on Thanksgiving Day.
“As soon as you honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out the present- moment, awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love – even the most simple action.”
~Eckhart Tolle
You can build good habits for your future well-being by practicing “being in the moment.” For example, present-moment awareness can decrease stress and abrupt mood changes, giving you more control over your thoughts and actions.
Living in the present means no longer worrying about what happened in the past and not fearing the future. Instead, enjoy what’s happening now and live for today!
The Thanksgiving Holiday is also a time for a rebirth, a spiritual enlightening to lead a better life. A renewed existence of activity or growth. It’s our ability in our mindset to accept challenges and the determination to break free from any situations that are not in our best interest. It’s time to step back and gain a fresh perspective on our limitations—a chance to dig deeper so that our limitations do not define the quality of life. Prioritize and invest time and energy to make your plan and goals into your new reality in 2023!
I will leave you with……. this today……..
May you celebrate Thanksgiving with love in your heart, prosperous vision in your mind, and gratitude in your being.
May this coming year be full of hopes and faith for you, and wishing you blessed times with your family and friends.
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Until next week, Trust Your Truth.
