“What is The Next Journey of Your Life? Got a Bucket List?”
What does your life’s journey look like when you retire, or what your life allows it? Do you have a “Bucket List?” It could be modest or extravagant. Nevertheless, life is a progression, and you should be aware and ready to go through the next decade with NO REGRETS!
According to the Oxford Dictionary, Bucket List is an informal noun for “a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to accomplish in their lifetime.”
The other definitions all included “before dying.” A little too morbid for me because I’m all about LIVING! However, the phrase was popularized, as you know, by the 2007 Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman movie by the same name.
From that, it has become a cultural phenomenon and part of being mentioned on TV and in our everyday language.
The term dates to the 16th Century suicides and a notable to say….. the Chicago Gangsters would punish “double-crossers.” I’ll leave all that up to your imagination!
On a lighter note, other words for “Bucket List” include.
- My Wish List
- Things to Conquer
- My Life’s My Do List
- Unique Experiences to Be Had
- Awesome Goals to Achieve
- Life’s Adventures List
Do you see my point? Call it what you may, but it should make you feel happy. So DREAM IT and DO IT! It is all about LIVING and LIVING with AGE-GILTIY!
“It’s the doing that leads to the becoming, and before you know, you are on the next stage of life.” ~Joan Erickson~
Do you have a Bucket-List? Is it doable? Here is how to make one:
- Start with the easy stuff
- Think about what you wanted to do as a kid
- Add some predictable things
- Put some weird stuff in there
- Think about OVERALL things you would like to experience
- Decide what is most important and put that at the top
My husband is a dreamer, and sometimes I have to nudge him to take action. For example, he loves everything about WWII. Every time we go to an air show, he says he “wished he would book a ride on one of the “war birds!” And I say, “Why didn’t you?”
A month ago, while searching the web, he saw that the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the world’s largest owner and operator of vintage military aircraft, founded to preserve WWII-era combat aircraft, would be at the Niagara Fall Airport during the Labor Day weekend!
I said, “BOOK it, DANNO……. JUST DO IT! It has been on your Bucket List FOREVER, and I’m tired of hearing the regrets of not doing it!”
Finally, after a good nudge and a mortgage payment later, it was going to come to fruition! Peter would take a ride in the only flying B29, the “FiFi” in the AFT cockpit seat behind the pilots! The B29 Super Fortress heavy bomber firebombed Tokyo and delivered the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in 1945. Part of our history cannot be ignored or changed. But, it did end the war. This plane also flew during the Korean War.
Those who live in Western New York know what the weather was like this past weekend, and the planes were grounded due to the low clouds and rain! BOO HOO! Unfortunately, that one is back at the top of his list!
It wasn’t a wasted day. First, we got to tour the Niagara Aerospace Museum, dedicated to preserving Western New York’s rich aviation and aerospace heritage!
Including Rochester native Blanche Stuart Scott, the first woman in America to fly solo! Glenn Curtiss of the Finger Lakes and Buffalo factories! My father-in-law worked at the Curtiss Factory before the war.
The timing was right for us to learn about the “Rosie the Riveters” contribution to the war effort and labor force that also changed our workforce history!
It’s worth a trip if you are visiting the Falls!
The Truth or moral to my story today is….
It’s about living every day in the PRESENT and making the best out of any situation.
Hopefully, we can make a “road trip” adventure out of the next opportunity to check this off his Bucket List.
In the meantime, my “Bucket List” to Europe and my Pre- COVID Girlfriend trip to Ireland show be a “GO!” We all need to be flexible and go with the FLOW of OUR LIVES!
Until next week, TRUST Your Truths while making your Bucket List and learn to LIVE with AGE-GILITY!
