The Holiday season is upon us, bringing joy, celebration, and sometimes, a dash of stress.
As the holiday approaches, a week from today, it’s not too late to step back from the hustle and bustle…. unwind….and immerse us in the true essence of this magical time.
Whereas, while we navigate the hustle and bustle, it’s crucial to prioritize our well-being.
Of course, the earlier planning your holiday activities in advance, the better. However, you can abide by the old proverb, “It’s better late than never!” https://grammarist.com/idiomy/better-late-than-never/
Whether it’s last-minute gift shopping, meal preparation, or travel arrangements, having a well-thought-out plan can significantly reduce last-minute stress.
As I get older, I have found a checklist to stay organized and on top of your “to-do list” is a must. ……If it isn’t written, it doesn’t get done!
Here are “10 tips” to help YOU De-stress and Savor the Holiday Season:
- Embrace Imperfection and Set Realistic Expectations for Yourself.
It’s okay if everything doesn’t go according to plan. Allow flexibility in your schedule and focus on the “joy of the moment” rather than striving for perfection.
2. Delegate Tasks:
You don’t have to do it alone—delegate tasks to family members or friends.
Whether decorating the house, preparing a meal, or wrapping gifts, sharing responsibilities can lighten your load and create a sense of collaboration.
3. Create a Relaxation/Self-care Routine:
Incorporate moments of relaxation into your daily routine.
Whether it’s a few minutes of deep breathing, a short walk, or a cup of calming tea in the evening watching a Hallmark Christmas Movie or my favorite, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
So, pamper yourself with self-care.
Therefore, taking the time and care of yourself is essential for maintaining a positive mindset during the holiday season, and it will recharge your energy and reduce stress.
4. Amidst the holiday chaos, take time to Savor Simple Pleasures:
Enjoy a cozy evening by the fireplace, savor holiday treats, or relish a quiet moment with a good book.
These small joys can be powerful stress relievers.
5. Stay Active – Remember……physical activity is a natural stressbuster.
Schedule time for exercise, whether it’s a brisk walk, a dance session, or a workout routine.
In addition, movement releases endorphins….. and helps clear your mind and boost your mood!
Exercise is good for your overall health in countless ways….and one article couldn’t begin to sum it up.
In addition to lowering stress responses, new research suggests that regular exercise helps convert “white” fat cells, a risk factor for cancer, to healthier “brown” fat cells.
6. Limit Screen Time:
Set boundaries on your screen time, especially on social media.
Constant exposure to holiday-related posts can sometimes contribute to feelings of inadequacy or FOMO (fear of missing out).
Nevertheless, disconnecting for a while can help you stay present and focused on your own holiday experience.
7. Practice Gratitude:
Take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for.
Amidst the holiday chaos, expressing gratitude can shift your perspective and bring a sense of appreciation.
8. Establish a Budget:
Financial stress can be a significant contributor to holiday anxiety.
Set a budget for gifts, decorations, and celebrations, and stick to it!
Thoughtful, budget-friendly gifts can be just as meaningful as extravagant ones.
9. Connect with Loved Ones:
The true spirit of the holidays lies in the connections we share with others.
Make time to connect with family and friends in person or virtually.
These meaningful interactions can bring joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging.
10. Nourish and Energize Your Body:
Amidst the festive treats, it can be challenging to resist that cheesy mashed potato dish or a second helping of pecan pie!
However, the fact is that overloading on sugar (especially high fructose corn syrup), alcohol, and refined carbs, with an increasing number of gluten- and dairy-sensitive people, can intensely tax both the body and mind.
Therefore, don’t forget to nourish your body with wholesome foods. Opt for a balance of nutritious meals to maintain your energy levels.
This holiday season, make a conscious effort to de-stress and fully immerse yourself in the magic of this special time.
Lastly, by nurturing your mind, body, and spirit, you’ll survive the season and truly thrive, creating lasting memories and embracing the joy the holidays bring.
Until next week, Have a Healthy, Happy, and Blessed Holiday, Trust Your Truth, and Live with AGE-GILITY!
Bye for now!
