Have you ever started working on one thing and suddenly realized it was becoming something much bigger than you originally planned?
That seems to be exactly where I am right now.
✍️ I’ve been spending a lot of time writing my next book, and once again, I find myself slipping into something I’ve talked about for years:
🌊 FLOW
You know that wonderful place where you sit down to work for “just a little while,” look up, and somehow several hours have disappeared?https://sharehttps://share.google/Pgjrqdk6o0pO4eiAa
Meanwhile, the laundry is still waiting, the dishwasher hasn’t emptied itself, and apparently nobody has invented a self-cleaning desk yet. 😄
But I’m writing. I’m creating. And I’m in my Flow.
📚 A Series I Didn’t Know I Was Creating
What has been especially interesting is that somewhere along the way, without really planning it, my books began turning into a Start Where You Are series.
And the funny thing is, I didn’t sit down with a grand publishing plan and decide, “I’m going to create a series!”
It simply evolved.
💪 Book #1: Start With Your Body
My first book in this emerging series, Start Where You Are: Gentle Home Exercises for Seniors, began with a very simple idea:
You don’t have to be younger, stronger, fitter, or more flexible before you begin moving your body.
You simply:
👉 Start where you are.
Move with the body you have today. Build strength from where you are today.
Take one small step, then another.
🏡 Book #2: Start With Your Space
Then came Start Where You Are: Declutter Your Home, Declutter Your Life.
That book grew from another place where I found myself needing to take my own advice.
Decluttering can feel overwhelming, especially when we’re surrounded by years of memories, sentimental belongings, boxes we’ve moved from one house to another, and things we keep because we’re absolutely convinced we may need them someday.
📦 And apparently, “someday” requires a lot of storage space!
But once again, the answer wasn’t to tackle the entire house in one heroic weekend.
It was to:
🗄️ Start with one drawer.
📦 One box.
👚 One closet.
✅ One decision.
🏠 One small space at a time.
Once again:
👉 Start where you are.
🍎 And Now…My Newest Endeavor
Now I’m working on my newest book, focusing on gentle ways to improve our health as we age through better food choices, reducing sugar and highly processed foods, exploring intermittent fasting, and becoming more aware of how what we eat affects our energy and vitality.
And guess what message keeps showing up?
✨ Start where you are.
Not where you were at 40. Not where you think you should be. Not where someone on social media tells you that you ought to be. And certainly not on Monday after one final weekend of eating everything in the refrigerator. 😂
Start where you are today.
🥗 One healthier meal.
💧 One extra glass of water.
🍬 One less sugary snack.
⏰ One small adjustment to your eating schedule.
🚶 One walk after dinner.
Small changes count.
🧭 I Finally Saw the Common Thread
The more I write, the more I realize these books didn’t become a series because I planned them that way.
They became a series because Start Where You Are is exactly what I have been doing in my own life.
💪 With movement.
🏡 With decluttering.
🍎 With my health.
✍️ With writing.
🌱 With retirement.
🎯 With discovering new purpose.
🔄 And with every pivot that has come along the way.
And suddenly it clicked. This is AGE-GILITY.
🌟 What AGE-GILITY Really Means to Me
AGE-GILITY has never been about pretending we aren’t getting older.
It is about learning how to:
🌱 Grow
🔄 Adapt
🧭 Pivot
💪 Stay resilient
✨ Keep moving forward
…through every decade of life.
We work with the body we have today. The energy we have today. The circumstances we have today.
And then we take the next step. No waiting for the “perfect” time.
ecause, between us, I’m still waiting to find out exactly when that perfect time is supposed to arrive. 😉
🌊 That’s Where FLOW Comes In
Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi—whose name still gives my tongue its own AGE-GILITY workout 😄—introduced the concept of Flow as that state where we become deeply absorbed in something meaningful and enjoyable.
Time seems to disappear. We become completely engaged. The outside noise quiets down. And for a little while, we are simply in the moment.
That has certainly been happening to me with writing. But I’ve also learned something important:
💡 Flow doesn’t always begin with a huge goal or a perfectly mapped-out plan.
Sometimes it begins simply by showing up.
✍️ Write one page.
🚶 Walk for ten minutes.
🗄️ Clean one drawer.
🥗 Prepare one healthier meal.
📞 Make one phone call.
🎨 Try one new hobby.
📚 Read one chapter.
And somewhere between starting and continuing, momentum begins to build. That’s when something wonderful can happen. You may discover a direction you never planned.
🚗 My GPS Is Still Recalculating
My writing journey is teaching me this lesson all over again. I didn’t sit down one day and announce: “Today I shall create the Start Where You Are series!” It evolved. One idea led to another. One book opened the door to the next. And suddenly I could see the common thread:
🧭 Start where you are.
🛠️ Use what you have.
📚 Learn what you need.
🔄 Adjust along the way.
That is Flow. And that is AGE-GILITY.
As we grow older, I believe one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is permission to stop thinking we must have everything figured out before we begin.
Our goals can change. Our passions can evolve. Our purpose can shift. And our GPS may occasionally say:
📍 “Recalculating…”
Mine certainly has. And that’s okay. Because AGE-GILITY has never required a perfectly straight road. Sometimes the detours are where the best discoveries happen.
💜 My Tuesday Truth
You do not have to know exactly where something is going before you begin.
🌱 Start with what interests you.
💪 Start with what your body can do.
🏡 Start with the room that needs a little breathing space.
🥗 Start with one healthier choice.
✍️ Start with the idea that keeps nudging you.
✨ Then pay attention.
Because sometimes, when you start where you are, you discover a Flow that carries you somewhere you never expected to go.
That is exactly where I find myself today.
✍️ Still writing.
🌱 Still growing.
🎨 Still creating.
📚 Still learning.
🧭 Still recalculating.
✨ And definitely still starting where I am.
Because that, to me, is what living with AGE-GILITY is really all about.
💫 Until Next Tuesday…
Trust your truths.
🌊 Find your Flow.
🧭 Follow your own GPS.
And remember:
💜 You don’t have to start perfectly. You just have to start where you are.
Bye for now!
