Much of the US has been locked in a deep freeze thanks to Winter Storm… Fern— bringing states of emergency, deep spread snow, ice, dangerous road conditions, closures, and major travel disruptions—because safety comes first.
If you’re reading (or watching) this while wrapped in a blanket burrito… you’re not alone.
So, today’s Tuesday Truth is simple:
When you’re stuck at home… You still need to MOVE.
Movement plays a very real role in both our physical and mental well-being.
This is exactly when movement matters most, and not just to keep warm.
However:
- You have no exercise equipment at home.
- And even a simple walk outside isn’t safe?
And here’s the funny part (because life has a sense of humor), as many of you know, something is always inspiring to write, and as I wrapped up my new manuscript, Start Where You Are: Gentle Home Exercise for Seniors, I realized I needed to take my own advice.
Because “Start Where You Are” isn’t just for seniors, beginners, or people recovering from setbacks….
It’s for anyone who’s STUCK.
Stuck by the weather.
Stuck by travel.
Stuck because the gym has shortened hours.
Stuck because it’s simply not safe to be out walking—or shoveling like you’re training for the Snow Olympics.
Stuck by circumstances beyond your control.
When it’s too dangerous to shovel snow, walk outdoors, or head to the gym, gentle movement at home becomes the safest and smartest alternative.
Even small, intentional movement can help:
- Improve circulation.
- Reduce stiffness and aches.
- Boost mood and mental clarity.
- Shake off the winter blues.
- Reminds you that your body still works with you, not against you!
No equipment required.
No special space needed.
Just a willingness to begin—right where you are.

Movement doesn’t have to be long, hard, or perfect.
It just needs to be consistent and kind.
A few minutes of marching in place, chair exercises, wall push-ups, stretching, or balance work can make a powerful difference—especially on days when the world feels frozen.
