Have you ever written a future letter to yourself?
The practice of writing a future letter is an exercise in:
- Self-reflection/self-awareness
- Goal and intention-setting
- Envisioning your desired future
- Personal growth and transformation
The time frame is up to you, but the essence remains the same.
When the designated date arrives in one to five years, you open the letter to yourself with anticipation and curiosity.
Reflect on how far you’ve come since you wrote those words and compare them to where you are now.
Have you achieved your goals? Have your aspirations shifted or evolved?
Use this opportunity for self-reflection and course correction if necessary.
Examples: See my Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube Live from March 5.
Writing a future letter to your future self is akin to creating a vision board—a visual representation of your dreams and aspirations.
My Vision Board after leaving my full-time position (see Lives.)
By expressing your intentions and envisioning your desired future, you’re setting the stage for manifestation and personal growth.
Just like a vision board, revisiting your letter in the future can be a powerful reminder of the journey you’ve embarked on and your progress.
Here is a the “GROW” Template for Writing to Your Future Self:
Gratitude and Reflection – Concentrate on the positive and acknowledge the blessings.
Realizations and Lessons Learned – Consider lessons learned from various experiences and challenges.
Outlook and Aspirations—Here, you share your aspirations and goals for your personal and professional development. Do you have steps planned to achieve them?
Wishes and Dreams—Share the things you hope to experience, places you hope to visit, and achievements you aspire to. This is the time to express your deepest feelings and envision the possibilities you envision for yourself.

Ultimately, writing a future letter to yourself is a powerful tool for growth!
It serves as a roadmap for your future, guiding you toward the life you envision and reminding you of the limitless potential within you.
So, why not pick up your pen and start drafting your letter today?
Your future self will thank you for it.
